Christmas in London is a special time of the year and is the most celebrated season in London. The whole city is magical with festivities and it is said to be a memorable moment in life for people who are on their maiden visit to London.



West End Christmas Lights

London Streets are lit up strategically with themed items and people visit the streets in the evening to capture the glowing attraction of the city. The West End is exceptional every year and people flock here to see the lights and decorations. Visiting the shopping stores in Oxford Street and Regent Street is awesome and some people venture to the West End just for window shopping under the dazzling lights.

Outdoor ice skating in winter is famous all over London. Skating rinks appear in different destinations from mid November to mid January. Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree

The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree since it was first put up in 1947 is one of the highlights of Christmas in London. Every year, Britain receives a 20 meters high tree from Norway given as a gift for Britain's aid for Norway during the Second World War. The tree is 50 to 60 years old and is lit up on the first Thursday evening of December and stays till the twelfth day celebrations on the 6th of January, following which it is chipped and composted. Great Christmas Pudding Race

The Great Christmas Pudding race takes place as a part of Christmas celebration to raise money for Charity. In the Month of December, on any Saturday morning, about 150 contestants take part in the pudding race in Covent Garden. The contestants wear fancy dress and manage to cross obstacles including balloons and several items while holding a plate of pudding in their mouth. The event looks funny and people enjoy it largely.

Geffrye Museum's Christmas Past

From late November to early January, the Geffrye Museum is decorated in festive style and all the twelve rooms depict the magical glimpse of Christmas since the beginning. The Christmas Past explores the customs that people follow for Christmas and the origins of the customs like Christmas carols, parties, lights and trees.

Christmas Carols

In the mid weeks of December, Carol singers from all over the world visit different destinations in London and perform to raise money for charities. Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey and St Paul's Cathedral are the most familiar ones where people visit in groups to enjoy the Carols.
